Detroit Artists Market

The Detroit Artists Market is in the heart of Detroit’s buzzing contemporary art scene. Established in 1932, as a venue for local artists to sell their art, it has stood the test of time and is the oldest non-profit gallery in the Midwest. It is close to the Detroit Institute of Arts, and the Wayne State University, and is the best place to see the work of up-and-coming artists in Detroit.

The Heidelberg Project

The Heidelberg Project is a unique open-air art gallery, founded in 1986 by Tyree Guyton, to revitalise Detroit’s East Side. He and his fellow artists have transformed the neighbourhood into a stunning art installation, bringing art directly to the public, outside of a gallery context. There are several painted houses and exciting exhibitions. It is undoubtedly the aim of the project to turn Detroit into a place of artistic and cultural importance.
